Flax for Thread

I’ve included a photo of flax growing in a garden at Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm in Pennsylvania. We’ll process the flax into linen thread after it’s pulled in early July.

Seeking Additional Information

I’d like to see growing instructions with more detail in the magazine. For example, I was so excited to see there was an article about fruit walls in the Summer 2017 issue of Heirloom Gardener (Fruit Walls: Urban Farming in the 1600s), but it contained only history and no information about how to construct a fruit wall or how to espalier. The article about succession planting contained tips and suggested varieties, but I would have loved and used a few sample succession planting plat diagrams or sketches that included complete information about what to plant and how. (It was a great article, but it left me wanting more information.) I’d prefer less lengthy history and more practical planting guidance across the magazine. I love the magazine, and I’m thrilled you’re asking readers for suggestions!
